Devotion and discipleship
Many women are recorded by name in the New Testament, which was very unusual in Jewish writings of the time. Both Jesus and his apostles valued their priceless contribution to the work of the gospel, which was counter-cultural. Leadership was shared between men and women according to their talents. Paul’s words to the Galatians, ‘there is neither male or female, for we are all one in Christ’ were in defiance of the prevailing culture of the first century. As we explore devotion and discipleship in this series, we have sketched out the series in this way, through the lives of outstanding New Testament women…
Worship Him not ourselves - intimacy
His plan not ours - will
Be still not rushed - patience
Connect not disengage - compassion
Unite not divide - love
Understanding not ignorance - wisdom
Flexible not fixed - courage
Faithfulness - witness
